Deadly Wreck Under Investigation in Marshall County
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama State Troopers are investigating a deadly wreck that happened late Sunday night in the Wakefield community.
Emergency crews responded just before midnight Sunday to the head-on collision on Highway 227. When crews arrived, they found that a minivan and SUV had collided. Wakefield volunteer firefighters had to use heavy equipment to free one driver who was trapped in his vehicle for 45 minutes. Once freed, he was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
The road was closed for more than three hours while crews worked to clean up the wreckage. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
