HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A man accused of firing a gun at Huntsville Police officers is expected to be sitting before a judge Monday morning. Samuel Ward faces two charges of attempted murder after a 2011 incident where he is accused of firing at officers in the Butler Terrace neighborhood.
Police shot Ward several times during that incident, seriously injuring Ward.
Ward is currently serving a 20 year sentence for another incident, also involving a police officer.
The confrontation occurred when Officer Kevin Lambert suspected Ward and his brother of being involved in a drug transaction.
Ward's attorney, Bruce Gardner, argued Ward had done nothing wrong and his actions against the officer were about individual rights.
Regardless, in November of 2012, a jury found Ward guilty of attacking officer Lambert in the 2010 incident.
Ward is serving his time at the William E. Donaldson correctional facility, in Jefferson County.
Ward's trial before Judge Pate, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday morning.
