HUNTSVILLE, AL (WHNT) – A murder trial for accused killer Mercedes Douglas has been postponed.

It was scheduled to begin Monday morning at the Madison County Courthouse.  However, Judge Ruth Ann Hall said it’s been less than a year since the crime took place, so the trial should not be held yet.

Judge Hall continued Douglas’ trial, but did not schedule a new date.

Douglas is charged with capital murder in the death of John Mark Allen.  Allen’s body was found in January near his car on Spragins Hollow Road in Huntsville.

Police received a call of shots being fire near Arcadia Circle the Saturday before they found Allen. They didn’t find anyone at the time, but they did find blood in a parking lot.

The next day they found a Cadillac in a ditch off Spragins Hollow Road matching the description of the victim’s car.

Randle Earl Hewlett is also charged with killing Allen. His trial will start at a later date.
