HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - When a ‘for lease’ sign outside the Huntsville Gander Mountain store prompted some curiosity in WHNT News 19 viewers as to whether the outdoor sportsman’s Mecca may be ready to close up shop, we decided to dig a little deeper and get some answers.
A supervisor at the store told WHNT News 19 the available retail area had nothing to do with Gander Mountain, but the empty 45,000 square feet on the east side of the property.
That supervisor did say, however, there were rumors floating around Gander Mountain may be moving and that even his district manager was tight-lipped when asked about the possibility.
WHNT News 19 contacted Gander Mountain headquarters who issued this response:
“The ‘for lease’ sign on display near the Gander Mountain store in Huntsville pertains to the other part of the building, which is currently vacant. There are no plans to relocate the Gander Mountain store, which has recently extended its lease on the property.”
The shopping center property owner says a carpet business was interested in the available space adjacent to Gander Mountain but the deal fell through.
