STEVENSON, Ala. (WHNT) - On July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800 crashed shortly after taking off from JFK International Airport in New York City.

Five people on that flight: Michael Scott, Barbara Scott, Joe Scott, Tom Weatherby, and Brenda Privette, all who called Stevenson home, died.

On the 17th anniversary of the crash, members of the community gathered to dedicate a memorial to the victims of TWA Flight 800 in downtown Stevenson.

Another memorial for the flight stands in Long Island, New York.
