HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – WHNT began broadcasting on Thanksgiving Day 1963. After 50 years, WHNT News 19 continues the tradition of keeping local news a priority.

We are a CBS affiliate since the beginning and the only station in the Tennessee Valley to never change.

Thanksgiving Day came only six days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. On this day, President Lyndon Johnson addressed the nation to announce Florida's NASA Launch Operation center would be renamed the John F. Kennedy Space Center.
