FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Every day, thousands of people surf the for sale ads on the popular site Craigslist, looking for legitimate deals.
But according to Florence Police, a Muscle Shoals man had no intentions of buying his sister a wedding dress from a woman when they set up a meeting place.
“The witness/victim walked up to the vehicle that he told her that he would be in at that location,” explained Sgt. Cliff Billingsley, “At that point she observed him sexually gratifying himself.”
Sergeant Billingsley said much to the man’s surprise, investigators also observed 18-year-old Reginald Swopes Jr. with no pants or underwear on inside his car.
According to Billingsley, the woman felt nervous meeting the man alone.
So Billingsley said the woman did the right thing by contacting law enforcement and meeting in a public place.
“He was arrested in Muscle Shoals for a similar incident, and we have been contacted by other witnesses that have said that they feel like it’s the same person who has contacted them through Craigslist.”
According to officers, never hesitate to call police or even meet the person buying the items from you at a police department to help ensure your safety.
Reginald Swopes Jr. is charged with public lewdness and indecent exposure.
Detectives said additional charges could be brought against Swopes if more victims come forward.
Swopes has been released on a one-thousand dollar bond from the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
