HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Jeff Bennett with Bennett Nurseries explains the best time to prune plants in the summer.
The appropriate time to prune hydrangeas is right after the plant flowers, but you need to be cautious where you trim your plant. Bennett explains if you only prune the top of the plant, the growth on the top of the plant will be fuller. Another plant that benefits from summer pruning is the summer-blooming spirea.
Bennett encourages gardeners to prune plants before the end of July so plants have the opportunity to grow back before winter sets in.
