LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – An Alabama inmate is recovering after being stabbed Sunday night at the Limestone Correctional facility. He was evacuated via helicopter to a nearby hospital and is now in stable to fair condition.
Antonio Cunningham was stabbed around 7:45 p.m. in what Department of Corrections spokesperson Brian Corbet called a “one-on-one conflict between two inmates.” Corbett said Cunningham was not “targeted” and the incident was not related to gang activity.
Cunningham, born in 1979, was convicted in Shelby County for obscenity and violation of sex offender registration law. He is serving a 10-year sentence.
The incident remains under investigation.
