About the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund

Chris and Amy George founded the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund in November 2005 in memory of their daughter, Melissa, who died shortly after birth.  Amy, a former WHNT News 19 anchor, went in to labor with twins at 26 weeks gestation.  Melissa’s twin, Ann Catherine, survived and is now 7 years old.  Amy and Chris were touched by the care both of their daughters received in the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) at Huntsville Hospital.  In their words, “The doctors and nurses there take God’s tiniest miracles and give them a chance at life.”  Money raised through Melissa’s fund buys lifesaving equipment for the RNICU.  “We can’t think of a better way to honor Melissa’s memory,” Amy says. “Her time on Earth may have been short, but she’ll live forever in our hearts. We are excited about all the good we’ll be able to do in her name through this fund.”

Since it was established in November 2005, Melissa’s fund has raised more than $1.7 million for the RNICU. Purchases made possible by the fund include a transport ventilator, a cross-vent ventilator, eight cardiac monitors, two Isolettes, five Giraffe Warmers, a GE warmer, eight Giraffe Incubators, 10 Giraffe OmniBeds, a patient monitoring system and thermometers. Funding has also helped to provide keepsake boxes for parents whose children pass away in the RNICU, and helps fund the family support program. Your donations are truly making a difference.
