Woman Drowns While Swimming In Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Firefighters say a 29-year-old woman drowned while swimming in an old coal mining pit in Marion County on Wednesday night.

According to first responders, Jamie Moody was swimming with her fiance when she went under and never resurfaced.

It happened shortly before 8 p.m. along County Road 253, south of Hackleburg.

Dive crews were able to recover Moody from the water.  Her body is being sent to state forensics for autopsy.
