HAMPTON COVE, Ala. (WHNT) — Business seems to be pretty steady for home improvement stores around town on the 4th of July.  WHNT News 19 stopped by the Lowe’s in Hampton Cove today. If people weren’t picking up last minute Independence Day supplies, they were grabbing up the holiday deals.

“I was surprised,” said Fred Person. “I’m the closing manager here tonight and when i came in the parking lot, it was a lot fuller than i thought it would be.’

Rain or shine, people celebrating the 4th of July are still running last minute errands for the holiday and the gloomy weather isn’t holding consumers down.

“It’s bringing them down a little bit but they`re still shopping,” said Person. “It’s picking up as the day goes on. I think everyone’s hoping to have a break in the weather and maybe enjoy fireworks tonight.”

Person said Independence Day is one of the busiest days in the summer season for Lowe’s.  It’s a prime time for some of the store’s biggest items like patio furniture, tiki torches, and grills. If consumers weren’t planning on grilling out on this rainy July 4th, they were taking advantage of the holiday deals and preparing for a more pleasant day, later this summer.

“Sales are doing real well, it`s always sunny and 72 inside the store regardless of what it`s doing outside,” said Person.
