CULLMAN, Ala. (WHNT) — The Cullman City School Board has chosen its next superintendent.  In a meeting Wednesday morning, board members announced an intent to hire Dr. Doreen Griffeth of Marietta, Georgia.  Griffeth currently serves as an area assistant superintendent in the Cobb County, Georgia school district.

Griffeth was chosen over two north Alabama educators: Dr. Sandra Spivey, current Director of Secondary Instruction for Madison County Schools  and Dr. Ronald Snow, principal at Austin High in Decatur.  The Alabama Association of school boards recommended five finalists for the job.

Contract negotiations between the board and Dr. Griffeth will begin soon.  A start date has not been set.  Griffeth will replace Dr. Jan Harris, who is retiring.  Harris served as principal at Huntsville High School before taking her current position in Cullman in 2005.
