Furlough Information: Gate Hours, Other Arsenal Services Affected
REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) – As the furlough begins, people who work and live on Redstone Arsenal will notice several changes.
One of the main changes has to do with gate hours and staffing. Gate 7 (Martin Road West) and Gate 3 (Redstone Road) will be closed on Fridays. As the furlough period continues, Garrison officials will monitor traffic patterns at these gates and make adjustments as needed, according to Col. John S. Hamilton, Garrison Commander.
“We recognize the difficult financial implications of any furlough, no matter how limited its length, on the dedicated employees at Team Redstone,” said Col. Hamilton. “We will make every effort to keep our employees, tenants and the public informed as additional information regarding DoD’s funding level becomes available.”
Here are the changes to gate hours:
Gate 1 Martin Road (East)
0530 – 2100 Monday through Friday, reduced capacity
Gate 3 Redstone Road
0530-1800 Monday through Thursday
Gate 7 Martin Road (West)
0530-2000 Monday through Thursday
Gate 8 Goss Road
0530-2100 Saturday through Thursday
Friday 0945-2100, reduced capacity
Gate 9 Rideout Road
No change Friday, but reduced capacity
Gate 10 Patton Road
0530-2100 Monday through Thursday
Friday 0530-0930, reduced capacity
Many services will be affected by the furlough, including Army Community service, ID badging, the Equal Employment Opportunity office, Army Substance Abuse Program, Defense Finance and Accounting, the education center, training support center and several soldier and human resources offices. The Casualty Assistance Office and Victim Advocacy will be on call on Fridays.
Dining facilities and recreation outlets will remain open as usual, including The Links, Redstone Lanes and pools. Child development centers on post will also operate as normal. These services are not impacted by the furlough because Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation services operate under non-appropriated funds.
NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the FBI’s Hazardous Devices School and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ National Center for Explosives Training and Research are not affected by the furlough.
