Alleged Contract Killer’s Attorneys Want Media Banned
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Attorney’s for alleged contract killer Jose Martinez want the media banned from all pretrial court proceedings.
Authorities say Martinez may be responsible for as many as 30 unsolved homicides. He is charged with the March 4 shooting death of Jose Ruiz of Decatur. Investigators say Martinez not only confessed to that crime, but also told them he had killed upwards of 30 people over the years as a contract hitman for several Mexican drug cartels.
Attorneys for Martinez filed a motion requesting all media be banned from any pretrial court proceedings, according to Alabama court documents. The motion goes on to say the pretrial publicity has been prejudicial.
Judge Angela Terry has not ruled on that request. Terry has ruled on a separate request however.
Terry will hear a request to grant bond for Martinez. Judge Terry will hear that request at Martinez’s preliminary hearing which is set for July 10.
Martinez is currently being held without bond in the Lawrence County Jail.
