Huntsville Man Indicted for 2011 Strangulation of 91-year-old Woman

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville man has been indicted with capital murder in the 2011 strangulation of his 91-year-old neighbor on Bide-a-Wee Drive, according to our news partners at The Huntsville Times and al.com.
John Clayton Owens, 29, is charged with killing Doris Richardson on Aug. 26, 2011.
Huntsville police testified that Owens admitted to burglarizing Richardson’s home but claimed that he did not kill her.
Police also claimed that Richardson’s otherwise neat and tidy home was in disarray when her body was discovered. Police also said that they found a slip of paper with the combination to Richardson’s safe in Owens’ room.
