LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Two men face charges of fighting dogs after Lauderdale County Sheriff’s detectives found several dogs chained and in poor condition.
The two men arrested are Quinton Lashawn Butler and Dereus Lamar Qualls. Both are charged with possession of fighting dogs — Butler faces 11 counts and Qualls faces two counts.
Sheriff’s detectives say they found several dogs chained up to a property along County Road 41 in Lauderdale County.
According to investigators, the dogs were underweight and malnourished. Detectives say they animals had obvious wounds from fighting.
“It`s very concerning because it`s cruel for these animals to be thrown in a pit and fight each other maybe to their death, and it`s just something, if we know about it, we`re not going to put up with it here in our county,” said investigator, Richard Richey.
Richey says the dogs may have been at the property for at least seven years.
Both Butler and Qualls have bonded out of jail.
