CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The remains of a Clanton soldier who was labeled Missing in Action for 63 years will be buried in Chillton County on June 9.
His DNA was positively identified earlier this year.
Master Sergeant Olen Berry Williams was killed during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. In Dec. of 1960, he was declared MIA. His remains were recovered but not identified, and were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in Hawaii. He was declared officially Killed in Action on the date of Dec. 1953.
Williams’ family members provided background information on Williams and DNA samples to the military. Through testing, the remains were positively identified in March.
Williams’ remains will be flown to Alabama on June 6. His family will hold a memorial service for him on June 9 at the Martin Funeral Home in Clanton.
Williams will be laid to rest next to his family members.
