HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)  – The North Alabama Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association and Cyber Huntsville are hosting Huntsville’s Fifth Annual Cyber Security Summit on Thursday, June 6th, at the Von Braun Center.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Lean Six Cyber: Continuous Improvement across All Cyber Domains.”

Approximately 550 people are expected to attend this year which is 100 people more than last year.  The all-day event includes management and technical presentations, a slate of industry- recognized speakers, and exhibits by major security vendors.

The agenda includes a variety of technical and management presentations, discussions on the impacts of cyber attacks.

The keynote speakers are Brigadier General Allen Harrell, Director, Joint Staff, Alabama Joint Force Headquarters, and Retired Lieutenant General Ronald L. Burgess, Jr.

Organizers say the summit provides the perfect occasion to network with peers, showcase solutions, and learn new skills.

Proceeds from the event will go to a scholarship fund for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the information systems security field.

As for the demand for cyber security, President Obama has said he considers it a significant national issue.  The President issued an Executive Order on Cyber Security on February 20 directing federal agencies to coordinate information regarding cyber attacks on 18 areas of critical infrastructure.  It also ordered the Director of National Intelligence to disseminate that information promptly and stipulated the Department of Commerce should establish rules for a cyber security framework for critical infrastructure.  The Department of Homeland Security was also assigned to assess risks to privacy.
