HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - The traffic light is located on Busy Bob Wallace Avenue in Huntsville. It's supposed to help drivers safely turn off of Fairacres Road on to Bob Wallace. Drivers who use the light, say it's not safe. "There are a lot of cars that like to run the red light. They're not paying enough attention to the light," says David Hall.
David's wife was in an accident at the intersection. He says she was turning on to Bob Wallace when a driver ran the light and t-boned her SUV. David says the intersection isn't safe, and a neighbor agrees. "It's very, very dangerous," says Linn Moss. Linn says drivers who use the intersection daily, are always on the alert. "People that come up to the intersection, if the light is green they stop, look and wait and look each way as if the light wasn't there," says Linn.
We observed at least one driver running the red light, which is obviously dangerous. Complicating the situation is the fact that many drivers are speeding. The speed limit is 40, but with our radar gun we clocked multiple drivers exceeding 50-miles per hour.
The bottom line, the situation at the intersection of Bob Wallace and Fairacres does appear to be less than safe. "My wife and I are afraid that somebody is going to have something happen to them, but they're not going to survive the accident," says David Hall.
WHNT News 19 is taking action and bringing the situation to the attention of city officials. Something to warn drivers that there is a light might be needed, certainly an increased police presence will help. We're working on it.
