LISTEN: FBI Releases 911 Tapes & Photos From Inside Midland City Bunker
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation has finally released the 911 calls from the day a Midland City kindergartener was kidnapped off his school bus and taken hostage by Jimmy Lee Dykes.
That Friday in February, A 15-year-old student on the bus called 911:
The bus driver, 66-year-old Charles Albert Poland Jr., was fatally shot while trying to protect the children on his bus.
Five-year-old Ethan was then taken to an underground bunker on Dykes’ property, where he was kept for 7 days.
Law enforcement tried to negotiate with Dykes. In one FBI sound file, you hear Dykes leading to profanity-laden tirade against the government.
“I have the experience, the ability, and the —–, to show how corrupt this —— system is, and how corrupt you people are. How —- hypocritical you people are, and how stupid you are,” ranted Dykes.
On the seventh day, FBI teams raided Dykes’ bunker, fearing Ethan was threatened.
Dykes was killed in that raid.
