HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)– Bruce Shoultes says as Tuesday’s accident was unfolding he couldn’t wrap his mind around how it was all happening.
“I never lost consciousness but I was kind of disoriented and thinking what in the world could have happened,” he says. “I’m stopped here. There’s nobody coming at me from any direction and my car was totaled and all the others were too.”
Shoultes says he was the 3rd or 4th car in the right lane waiting at the red light on the Bailey Cove side of the intersection.
“The light had just turned green,” he says. “I had just let off the brakes and wham! Huge impact from both sides because I was sandwiched.”
Shoultes says one of things that’s so disorienting about the whole incident is that when it was all over, the truck that had hit everyone was in front of them pointing the opposite direction.
“The eighteen year old who hit us all may have even leap-frogged my car because he ended up ahead of me over on the side facing the other direction and his car was on fire,” he says. “We found out later that he had hit four cars down at Mountain Gap and Bailey Cove. And some of the witnesses told me that they thought he was traveling 80 miles per hour or maybe more.”
Shoultes says he was taken to Crestwood Medical Center and treated for minor back injuries.
