News Release from Redstone Arsenal Public Affairs Office:

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.- As directed by the Secretary of Defense's recent announcement, DoD and Army civilian employees at Redstone Arsenal subject to furlough have started receiving the 30 day Notice of Proposed Furlough.

Furlough notices will be issued between May 28 and June 5, 2013. Employees will be given an opportunity to respond to the proposed notice of no less than seven calendar days, and a notice of decision prior to an employee being furloughed.

DoD intends to furlough all civilian employees for up to 88 hours, or 11 workdays, prior to the end of FY 2013, unless an employee is exempted from furlough. It is the intent of DoD and the Army that all employees be furloughed, with extremely limited exceptions, in order to maximize savings.

Approximately 15,500 Redstone Arsenal civilian employees will be affected by the furlough.  Some agencies such as NASA, Department of Justice, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are not affected by this furlough decision.
