TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Following a weather delay of more than two hours, the Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 4-0, to close day one of the 2013 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional being held at Rhoads Stadium this week.
The Tide picked up two runs each in the third and fifth innings. In the third, junior Ryan Iamurri and senior Kayla Braud crossed home plate on a Molly Fichtner single. In the fifth, Alabama used the long ball to plate its runs with junior Kaila Hunt and sophomore Jadyn Spencer both sending the ball over the fence with back-to-back home runs. Sophomore Leslie Jury picked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 17-7 on the season, while junior Tiffany Harbin took the loss for JSU, falling to 17-14.
Alabama returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Western Kentucky while Jacksonville State faces USC Upstate in an elimination game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
