Police Arrest Suspected Cemetery Vandal

UNION GROVE, Ala. (WHNT) – Police say the vandal who desecrated graves at Sweet Home Baptist Church has been arrested.

A 17-year-old male from Morgan County has been charged with Desecration of Graves, Theft of Property, and Criminal Mischief.

Police identified a white Dodge truck as belonging to the suspect from security camera footage of the vandalization.  While canvasing the Union Grove area, investigators discovered the location of the truck.

The truck was found at a home in Morgan County. Police found several items that had been stolen from the cemetery in the bed of the truck.

The teen arrested has been transferred to a juvenile holding facility.

A motive for the vandalization is still not known.
