HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Wednesday leaders of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama announced Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn as keynote speaker at the fourth annual Leaders and Legends dinner.
“Coach Malzahn is a product of the Boys & Girls club and not a lot of people may realize that,” says campaign chairman Kyle Collins, “so he was very eager when we contacted him to do this for us.”
Initiated in 2010, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama Leaders & Legends Dinner celebrates Club alumni who have gone on to make a major contribution in their respective field and to their community. The honorees embody and promote the values, ideals and character of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alabama. The inaugural class of 2010 included, Rex Reynolds, City Administrator and former U.S. House of Representative Robert E. “Bud” Cramer. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is the highest acknowledgement bestowed to individuals by the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama.
But the event is about more than recognition or rubbing elbows with Gus Malzhan, says board chairman Gary Saliba; at the heart of the event are the programs that greatly impact young lives.
“In the at-risk communities in this area the Boys & Girls club is positioned and committed and accountable to changing lives.”
Saliba says that is accomplished by focusing on three primary areas: academics, character development and healthy lifestyles.
The 4th annual Leaders and Legends Dinner will be held July 29th at the Von Braun Civic Center. Click here for more information.
