Two Dead After Passenger Train Hits Car in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) - Witnesses say a train hit a vehicle when the driver tried to go around the railroad crossing guard.  The wreck happened Sunday around noon near Harrison Avenue and 17th Way SW.

Police say two people died when the Amtrack train collided with the car.

CBS 42 is reporting the train was traveling from New York to New Orleans.

There were 83 passengers on the train, none of whom were hurt.
