ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – A Limestone County jury found a man not guilty in a trial involving sexual molestation charges against young children.
The jury returned with the verdict at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Jurors had deliberated the charges against Barry Gant for six and a half hours.
Gant had been accused of molesting young girls, ages 2 and 5. The girl’s mother says she noticed injuries on her daughters’ bodies during a bath. Gant had spent the night at the family’s house the previous night, and had been drinking with the girls’ father.
The trial included graphic evidence and emotional testimony. Both of the girls’ parents took the stand.
Limestone County District Attorney Brian C.T. Jones issued a statement about the jury’s decision.
“While I am disappointed with their verdict, I would like to thank the jury for their hard work and attention in this case,” said Jones. “I want to applaud the courage of these victims and the strength of their family for never wavering in their determination to seek justice. I try the difficult cases and I am not going to win every one. I will continue to fight for the victims of crime in Limestone County and I will not let this verdict diminish my determination.”
