Huntsville Police Arrest Suspect in Mapco Robbery

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Huntsville Police arrested a man after a robbery at a business early Thursday morning.

The robbery happened at the Mapco at the intersection of Highway 431 and Sutton Road around 1:30 a.m. According to police, a man walked into the store and demanded money from the clerk. Police say the man was armed and held the clerk at gunpoint.

According to officials, the man had on a red "Alabama" tee shirt, blue jeans, and a camouflage cap. Police started searching the area looking for the suspect. WHNT News 19 photojournalist Jeff Gray spotted a vehicle and man matching the description of the robbery suspect. Gray was able to stall the suspect and wait on police until they could arrest him.

20-year-old Eric Charles Stewart was arrested and charged with robbery and possession of marijuana.
