HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Sometimes healing can be found when people push themselves to realize their own strength, physically and mentally.

That's the premise of Team Red, White, and Blue. The organization was founded in 2010, but only recently started a Huntsville chapter. Their mission is to create a community of veterans through physical activities, like running, cycling, yoga, or even Cross Fit.

For veterans, an outlet can often be exactly what they need, when the scars of war are compounded with the struggles of daily life.

"All of a sudden bills have to be paid, and children get sick, things you didn`t have to deal with [while you were deployed]," said Suzanne Erickson, with the Huntsville chapter of Team Red, White, and Blue. "Relationship things or work struggles, it can often times be very overwhelming to them."

Erickson's enthusiasm for the organization is only rivaled by that of her love for running. She once ran a 100 mile race, and is planning for another 50 mile race this fall. But none of those miles seem as important as each step she takes for our Nation's veterans. Veterans like her husband, who retired from the United States Air Force.

"The Team RWB slogan is 'It's Our Turn' and that simply means it's our turn to serve you," said Erickson.

The growing team of runners, cyclists, and yogis, are putting one foot in front of the other for their friends, family, and complete strangers who have served our country, to show them that while they may be broken - physically, mentally, or emotionally - they can conquer it all.

Anyone can join Team Red, White, and Blue. They can be reached here through the organizations website.
