(CNN) — Three additional suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing have been taken into custody, Boston police said Wednesday.

Attorneys for two students in New Bedford, Massachusetts, who are originally from Kazakhstan, told CNN Wednesday that the two — Azamat Tazhayako and Dias Kadyrbayev — have been arrested in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing investigation.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are accused of carrying out the attack. Tamerlan died after a shootout with police, and Dzhokhar is in custody.

A U.S. federal law enforcement official told CNN additional people detained in the marathon bombings might have lied about seeing one or both of the Tsarnaev brothers after the April 15 attack and threw away items from a dorm room they shared with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The April 15 attack killed three people and wounded dozens more.
