LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Pay It Forward is designed to recognize people who, without expecting anything in return, go well out of their way to help others in need.
Wanda Dotson says Patsy Cole is definitely that person, “she has a heart of gold when it comes to meeting the needs of people in our community.” Wanda adds this about Patsy, “when someone needs food, she’s there with a week’s worth of food. If there are needs at the Tennessee Valley Outreach, the Salvation Army, and the Good Samaritan Food Bank, she’s always there to help.”
According to Wanda, Patsy also is heavily involved with the Women’s Missionary Union of Lawrence County. “At Christmas time the WMU sponsors children. We buy new clothes and store them in our basement til Christmas time, then take them to the Rec Center in Moulton and match the clothes with all the children that have asked to be sponsored.”
Wanda says Patsy goes way beyond that. “She heads our Samaritan Purses Shoe boxes, buys stuff, she heads our clothing drive at our church and all of this money comes out of her pocket, our church does not give her one penny of this because she will not take it.”
We found that out when we tried to Pay It Forward to Patsy as she immediately said she didn’t deserve it and then added “this money will end up right here in this building, at Berea Baptist Church.”
Patsy says her parents were always givers. “If you went to see my mother, you didn’t leave without something,” but adds it took a special message from the Lord to send her down that same path. “After my father passed away in in ’99, a lady came to me and said if it wasn’t for your father, my children and I would have gone hungry. I never thought about giving until she told me what my father had meant to her.”
Now it’s the good fortune of folks in Lawrence County to know Patsy Cole.
