Huntsville, Ala. – The first edition of the NCAA South Regional rankings were released on Wednesday evening, with UAH checking in at No. 3 in the poll that determines national seeding.

The official rankings will be used to determine the six teams that will make up the South Regional on May 16-19 at a site to be determined. The No. 1 seed in the region in all likelihood would serve as the host of the regional.

The Chargers (32-11-1) appeared at No. 3, behind No. 1 Tampa and No. 2 Delta State. West Florida, Florida Tech and Barry make out the top six.

Three teams will receive automatic bids to the NCAA South Regional and those will come from the SIAC Tournament Champion, GSC Tournament Champion and the Sunshine State Conference regular season champion. Should a team not ranked in the top six win their conference tournament, they will in most scenarios take the No. 6 seed and therefore only allow the top five teams in the region to qualify.

UAH is looking to make back-to-back regional appearances for the first time since 2001, when the team made four straight from 1998 through 2001.

Up next for the Chargers this weekend is Shorter. The two teams will meet for a three-game set in Rome, Ga., on Saturday and Sunday. There is a chance the series will get moved up to Friday-Saturday to avoid the rain, so stay tuned to uahchargers.com for any updates.

The next installment of the rankings will be released next Wednesday, May 1, before the selection show takes place on Sunday, May 12.
