Alabama Athletics Has 48 Student-Athletes Named To SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The University of Alabama had the second most student-athletes on the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll with 48, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced Wednesday. Kentucky ranked first with 49 student-athletes overall.

The Crimson Tide led the league’s gymnastics teams with 14 honors, including Becca Alexin  (General Health Studies), Kaitlyn Clark (Exercise Science), Sarah DeMeo (Interdisciplinary),Hunter Dennis (Pre-Criminal Justice), Ria Domier (Chemical Engineering), Lindsey Fowler (Human Dev. & Family St.), Lora Leigh Frost (General Health Studies), Marissa Gutierrez (Early Childhood Educ.), Kim Jacob (Exercise Science), Diandra Milliner (General Health Studies), Brooke Parker (Lower Div. General Bus.), Ashley Priess (General Studies), Ashley Sledge (General Studies), and Kayla Williams (Public Relations).

The men’s basketball team led the league with six honorees in Carl Engstrom (Health Sciences), Retin Obasohan (Pre-Business), Levi Randolph (Marketing), Dakota Slaughter (Marketing), Andrew Steele (Post Graduate Studies), and Isiah Wilson (Art).

Alabama was third among men’s swimming and diving teams with 14 student-athletes on the list, including Brian Carr (Chemical Engineering), Cameron Conners  (Electrical Engineering), Phillip Deaton (Chemical Engineering), Philip Dockery  (Chemical Engineering), John Ellis  (General Studies), Clark Garner (Chemical Engineering), Peter Hillyer (Restaurant and Hospitality Management), Bjoern Hornikel (Human Performance Exercise Science), Alex Pujol (Accounting), Jake Reynolds  (Human Performance Exercise Science), John Servati  (Finance), Reese Shirey  (Interdisciplinary Studies), George Wong  (Mechanical Engineering), and Andrew Wrist (Aerospace Engineering).

The women’s swimming and diving team had 11 honorees, including Lisa Bogosian (Marine Science/Biology), Emily Facchine (Chemical Engineering), Jenna Gallo (General Health Studies), Anna Rae Gwarjanski (Journalism), Hillary Hahmann (Management and Marketing), Stephanie Kinsey (Nursing), Angely Martinez (International Studies), Paige McCleary (Human Performance Exercise Science), Brittany Parkey (Biology), Lauren Piper (Communication Studies), and Kristel Vourna (Human Performance Exercise Science).

The women’s basketball team added three honorees in Briana Hutchen (Communication Studies), Khristin Lee (Communication Studies), and Erika Waters (General Health Studies).

To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The winter list honors those student-athletes that participate in men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
