(WHNT) - This Deal or Dud started with a much needed road trip to Oxford, Mississippi.
For those of you who don’t know, you can’t swing Colonel Reb in Oxford without hitting a writer. Oxford is the home of Pulitzer Prize winning writer and southern icon William Faulkner.
Oxford is also the home to maybe the last working phone booth on the planet.
I went to Oxford to hear another writer read a short story from his new book. Ron Rash is an extraordinary writer who has a new book titled Nothing Gold Can Stay.
Also, I stopped in a cool little college bar called Proud Larrys. My new music crush, Ray Wylie Hubbard, evidently got lost and stopped in for a show. In the song Mother Blues, he has my new rule that should be a Law of Physics.
“Every day my gratitude exceeds my expectations is a really…good…day.”
At this point you are probably wondering what this has to do with Deal or Dud. I’m getting there.
So, after 24 hours of surveying the Oxford wildlife, I hit the road to Tuscaloosa to see baby Rhett down in Tuscaloosa.
What I didn’t realize was my smart phone, with my GPS, was about dead.
Somewhere between Okolona and Aberdeen, Ms. It died.
Lost in Mississippi.
Lost in Mississippi with the NCAA Tournament about to come on in about two hours.
Luckily, the only Fred’s Pharmacy in that neck of the woods was around the bend.
I pulled in, popped out, ran in, asked if they had a smart phone car charger, they pointed, I found, I bought, I plugged in, and hit the road.
Life was good.
It only cost $6.99 and it was called the Vibe Car Charger. It has adaptors for a variety of smart phones.
It’s not as strong and sturdy as some of the name brand chargers and it didn’t charge as fast. But it still fired up my phone and I was good to go.
And Rhett was fine.
Planning the next trip to see the wildlife in Oxford now.
The Vibe Phone Charger Set is a “Deal.”
