ATTALLA, Ala. (WHNT) – Etowah High School was locked down Wednesday during a standoff that took place about a half a mile from the school.

David Bowman, Superintendent of Attalla City Schools, said the call came while students were evacuated due to the fire alarm system malfunctioning.  Because of this, students were already outside the school.

Police called the school system to notify them of a standoff with a man on John Avenue, according to our news partners Al.com.  All students were moved inside the gym as a precaution, Bowman said.

Al.com reports the standoff ended peacefully.
