HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Parts of south Huntsville sustained damage in Thursday’s round of severe thunderstorms.  The National Weather Service will survey the area today to see if the damage was caused by a tornado or straight line winds.

At Lily Flagg Apartments, just south of the intersection of Whitesburg Drive and Lily Flagg Road, there are several spots with debris and shutters down.  Several tree branches are down and some fell on cars.  Some units have roof damage, but no one was hurt.  Residents quickly got to work cleaning up the debris and damage.

Residents tell WHNT News 19′s Matt Kroschel they took shelter from the storm.  One says she saw a funnel cloud overhead and rushed inside to take cover.

A large tree also fell on a house on Valley View Drive, just nearby.

There is also damage at Lily Flagg Mini Storage, nearby on Whitesburg Drive.
