Problems at New Morgan County Intersection Subside, Despite Recent Accident
LACEY’S SPRING, Ala. (WHNT)– A Scottsboro woman was hurt in an accident Saturday night at an intersection in Morgan County. Alabama State Troopers say Patricia Sharp was hurt in the crash but is expected to be ok.
The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama Highway 36. The Alabama Department of Transportation installed a new light there in early March. People had been wanting something done about the intersection for year because of the number of accidents.
In the days after the light was turned on many people were running through the unfamiliar red light.
“For a couple of days we saw the police going after them. Everytime the light changed because they were running through the red lights,” says Rebekah Cobb who works at the People’s Bank at the intersection.
There was an accident at the intersection two days after it was turned on. Troopers determined it was caused by someone running the light.
Cobb says after the first few days and people got used to it, the light has been working very well.
“I think it really has helped a lot,” she says. “I know just with us getting out in the evenings and going home from work it’s a whole lot faster.”
Troopers say the cause of Saturday’s accident is still under investigation.
