UNA Baseball Loses To Freed-Hardeman 6-2

Florence, Ala. – Ryan Wood silenced North Alabama’s bats for eight innings as Freed-Hardeman pulled out a 6-2 win over UNA, snapping the Lions six-game winning streak. Wood (4-0) left the game with one on and no outs in the ninth and UNA managed to score two runs on two hits off reliever Joe Creasy.

With the loss, UNA is now 19-14 overall, while Freed-Hardeman improved to 26-4-1.

Freed-Hardeman got on the board with a run in the second off UNA starter Riley Sanderson (2-2). Garrett Ferguson was hit-by-pitch and scored on a single by Lincoln Lakoff.

Freed-Hardeman then scored four runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 5-0. Sanderson gave up hits to four of the first five batters in the inning and all four would eventually score. Sanderson pitched five and 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. UNA reliever Jacob Westerhouse gave up a walk and a single to start the ninth and Freed-Hardeman’s Bob Seda coaxed a bases-loaded walk from Eric Wilson to make it 6-0.

UNA’s Mathew Tittle drew a lead-off walk in the ninth and Wood left the game. Creasy gave up a single to Will Dennis and Jake Ward followed with a two-run single before FHU stopped the rally.

UNA was out-hit 10-to-6 in the game.

North Alabama senior first baseman Josh Cyr broke the school record for career games plaeyd at 193.

The Lions are scheduled to play at Stillman Wednesday, weather permitting.
