Albertville Man Recovering After Gunshot to Face
ALBERTVILLE, Ala (WHNT) – An Albertville man had facial reconstruction surgery Tuesday to treat gunshot wounds suffered early Saturday morning.
Police Chief Doug Pollard said investigators are trying to determine what led to the shooting and plan to present their findings to a grand jury.
Pollard said the victim went to a house on Bolvin Circle to get his wife, who was spending time with friends.
He said the man got in a fight with another person at the house, who shot him in the side of his face.
“From what I understand is it went through one side of his jaw and come out the other side,” Chief Pollard said.
“It just happened to hit him in a place where it wasn’t vital. It done some damage to his face, but it wasn’t valuable organs that would have took his life, so that’s a good thing.”
Pollard said the man left and drove home, where a friend called 911 to report the shooting and request medical assistance.
Police said the shooter also left the Bolvin Circle home after the shooting.
“There were several witnesses there that told what happened and the shooter called us the next day and came up here and was interviewed,” he said.
“We can’t just arrest him on that because we have to do our investigation on that because you don’t want to get and leave something out in the investigation, and then it go before a grand jury and it be thrown out.”
Pollard said the investigation is ongoing, with detectives trying to determine what happened, leaving it to prosecutors to decide who’s to blame.
“The DA’s office will bring up the charges, what could be the charges. Self-defense, attempted murder, whatever the case may be,” the police chief said.
Detectives hope to complete their investigation by the end of the week.
