New Hartselle High School Opens Monday

HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Spring break is almost over, and students head back to class Monday morning. But in Hartselle, high school students won’t be going back to their old school. They’ll be going to a brand new school.

Still a few finishing touches before students arrive for the first time at Hartselle’s new high school Monday morning.

“It’s going to be exciting, for sure. But it’s going to be a little chaotic in a good way,” says Hartselle High School teacher LeeAnne Pettey. Theres been a lot of excitement for this new facility, but it’ll reach its peak Monday morning when students take up their seats for the first time in these new classrooms.

Friday the final inspections were completed and the building was passed and cleared for occupancy. Oh, there will still be a few things left to sort out. Books are still waiting to be put away in the library, and there’s still some furniture left to install. The auditorium won’t be completed for another week or two, and the field house won’t be ready until this summer. But the students and staff are ready now.

“Our students, many of them have already been inside of this building, they helped us move last week. But for many of them, it will be their first time in here. So it will be exciting to get new classrooms, new lockers, new computers, new everything,” Pettey tells WHNT News 19.

She says in all honesty it will take the remainder of this school year to work out all the little kinks that are bound to crop up. But she says by the time school starts back in the fall, the new facility will simply be Hartselle High School.

By the way, school officials say everything that was moved over from the old high school was moved by the students and teachers. In fact, the entire library was moved during one class period.
