HUNTSVILLE, AL –Mike Gurtler scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.
The Havoc saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Huntsville made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by Anthony Battaglia at 13:18 in the second period. The Ice Bears evened things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Emery Olauson at 9:16 in the third period.
The Havoc’s offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.0 shots per game they average.
Huntsville was helped by Justin Cseter, who finished with one goal. Cseter scored 11:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Corey Fulton picked up the assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan and Aaron McGill, who contributed one a piece.
Knoxville managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears finished below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Knoxville put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.3 it averages per game.
The Havoc’s Jesse Kallechy stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Huntsville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Bryan Hince made 26 saves for the Ice Bears on 28 shots. Knoxville registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
