ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A fire hydrant burst and flooded the intersection of East Main and Andrew Street with water after being struck by a truck early Thursday morning.

One of the Municipal Utility Board workers said an 18-wheeler cut the corner too sharply while turning onto Andrew Street, and a tire went up on the curb and hit the hydrant.

MUB crews arrived just before 8 a.m. and worked to shut off water flow to the hydrant.

Workers used a backhoe and a couple of pumps to displace water from the hole as they removed the hydrant.

The intersection remained open to traffic but Albertville Police urged drivers to use caution.
