HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville man accused of killing his wife and young son had his felony exam today.

Stephen Marc Stone was not present in court, which is often the case for this type of court procedure. Madison County District Judge Dick Richardson assigned two court-appointed attorneys to represent Stone.

Last month, Stone allegedly killed his 32-year-old wife Krista and their 7-year-old son Zachary in their home on Chicamauga Trail in south Huntsville.  The Madison County Coroner said Krista Stone was strangled and Zachary Stone was strangled and drowned.

Police say Stephen Stone turned himself in to authorities in St. Clair County.  Leeds Police urged Huntsville Police to do a welfare check on the home, and found the two bodies inside.

The couple’s two other young children who lived in the home are now in their grandparents’ care.
