Huntsville, Ala. - The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team earned its first Gulf South Conference Player of the Week of the 2013 campaign as catcher Cortney McNett took home the honor after an impressive weekend in league play on the road.

McNett went 7-for-11 at the dish and walked four times for a strong on-base percentage of .733, and three of her hits were home runs as she drove in eight runs.

The three long flies each came at an important time for the Chargers. The senior belted a game-tying shot in the team’s 14-3 win at Delta State, provided insurance with a late-inning solo blast in what was a 5-4 game at the time in the first contest against Christian Brothers, and put the Chargers in front with a 3-run bomb in the third inning of the nightcap against CBU.

Recording 17 total bases, McNett put together a stunning slugging percentage of 1.545 on the weekend.

McNett and her teammates will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Georgia for a doubleheader.
