HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau shared some exciting news with everyone today. Huntsville is officially in the running to host the Social Media Tourism Symposium.
Huntsville has been chosen along with 13 other cities in the United States to compete for host city. Huntsville is also the only city in Alabama competing.
With the fear of sequestration, several conferences that would have brought an economic boost to Huntsville and Madison County were lost. Winning this conference would mean bringing more money to the area.
“It’s estimated that the Social Media Tourism Symposium would bring close to $180,000 in direct spending to Madison County,” said Judy Ryals, President/CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The host city will be chosen by votes on social media. Voting for round one is already underway and ends Friday at 11:00am. You can help bring the conference to Huntsville. Cast your vote here.
Dr. Deborah Barnhart, CEO of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, explained why Huntsville is the perfect fit for a conference so focused on the communication tools of the future.
“As a city on the leading edge of technology, Huntsville is well positioned to take social media to the next level as both a promotional tool and a platform to encourage innovation and ingenuity in our communities,” said Barnhart.
