Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association Student Essay Competition
The 2013 Law Day Essay Contest is sponsored by the Huntsville- Madison County Bar Association and is open to all Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County students in grades 4 through 12.
This contest allows students to express their ideas about living in a society that is governed by the rule of law, and achieve recognition for their work.
The 2013 contest theme is “Access to Justice: No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom.” Students should consider the importance of the courts and their role in ensuring access to justice for all Americans.
According to the Huntsville-Madison County Bar, students should consider that, “open and accessible courts are fundamental to our way of life. From seeking justice in a criminal case to enforcing a patent or copyright from personal injuries to landlord-tenant disputes, we turn to the courts to provide us with a fair and impartial forum to reach a just result. In state after state, severe funding cuts are crippling courts’ ability to fulfill this role.”
This competition is open to all students in grades 4 through 12 in Madison County, including those in public school, private school, and home school. There is also a cash prize for the winners at each level.
