Cleveland, Miss. – Josh Cyr homered twice and Cade Medley allowed just two runs and eight hits over seven innings as the University of North Alabama downed Delta State 3-2 in the Gulf South Conference series finale. The game was called in the top of the eighth inning due to rain.

With the win, UNA improves to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the GSC. Second ranked Delta State is 16-3 and 4-2.

The Statesmen swept a double-header from the Lions Saturday and held a 2-1 lead in the third inning Sunday before the Lions rallied for the win.

UNA broke on top in the first inning on a solo home run by Josh Cyr. It was his second homer of the season and 23rd of his career with the Lions. Delta State got two runs in the second inning on the combination of three hits and a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead. The Lions tied the game in the top of the third as Thomas Lundborg doubled and later scored on a Jake Ward sacrifice fly.

Cyr broke the 2-2 tie in the sixth with another solo home run.

Medley (3-1) pitched seven complete innings for UNA to get the win. He allowed two runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

The win was the first road victory for the Lions this season in seven games.

UNA plays at Auburn-Montgomery Tuesday and hosts Stillman Wednesday.
