UNA head coach Terry Fowler was also named the league’s Coach of the Year for the second time in the previous three seasons.

Fowler picks up his second coaching award but first since the GSC did away with East and West Divisions. He was the 2011 GSC East Coach of the Year after guiding the Lions to a 21-7 record and a berth in the NCAA South Region Tournament. This year, the Lions are poised to make the tournament again despite returning just one starter from a year ago and being picked to finish fifth in the league standings in the GSC preseason coaches’ poll.

UNA enters the 2013 GSC Tournament with a 19-9 record and second-place finish in the regular-season standings. The Lions are also ranked sixth in the most recent South Region poll, which determines which teams advance to NCAA post-season play.
