Sheffield Home Invasion Murder Suspect Could Face Death Penalty
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) – After countless man-hours, tips lead Sheffield police detectives to Damien Shipley who was already in the Muscle Shoals Jail. Police picked Shipley up on a traffic warrant after the home invasion and murder on Sterling Boulevard.
“I want to say I`m pleased to say we made an arrest, but I`m really not pleased,” said Sheffield Police Chief, Greg Ray. “This is a lose-lose situation. No matter how you look at it, but we are fortunate we were able to get some closure for the victim and family.”
That closure comes with caution.
Donte Montgomery turned himself into the Sheffield Police Department Tuesday evening.
However, the search for Fernando King continues. Detectives warn King should be considered dangerous.
Chief Ray says King and Montgomery face felony murder charges. However, Shipley could face the toughest penalty: capital murder.
“We certainly stand behind whatever the District Attorney decides to do but as of right now, speaking with someone who represents victims, we would like to see the death penalty in this case,” said Ray.
